Prevent · Perio Protect® Tray Therapy
The part of gum care that happens at home.
With Perio Protect®, you wear a custom-made tray at home for about 10 to 15 minutes, once or twice a day. Made from a digital scan of your own teeth, it carries a gel Dr. Oh prescribes into the pockets around your gums — your part of the plan, between visits.
Dr. Eric Oh, DDS MS, is a general dentist and a trained Perio Protect® provider. The tray is one piece of a plan, alongside your cleanings and sometimes laser therapy. Not everyone is a candidate; we'll tell you honestly if we don't think it's likely to help.
What Perio Protect® is, in plain terms
Perio Protect® is a custom tray Dr. Oh prescribes. It holds a gel below the gumline while you wear it — the daily, non-invasive part of your gum-health plan, done at home between visits.
Your part of the plan, between visits
The Perio Tray®'s seal is designed to hold the gel in the space between your gums and teeth, and you wear it as Dr. Oh directs.
The gel, how often, and how long are his decisions for you. It doesn't replace brushing, flossing, or your hygiene visits. It sits alongside them — the piece of gum care you can do every day without anyone working in your mouth.
Alongside LANAP®
After laser gum therapy, most of the work of keeping your gums healthy happens at home, between visits. For some LANAP® patients, Dr. Oh adds a Perio Tray® to that daily routine as one more way to reach below the gumline.
The tray hasn't been studied specifically after laser therapy. We use it because it's simple and gives us one more way to keep working on treated areas. It's a supplement to laser care and hygiene visits, not a replacement for either.
Told you need gum surgery? Call us first.
If another office has told you that you need gum surgery, that may well be the right call. Before you decide, it's worth a conversation.
Dr. Oh will look at your gums and x-rays, measure how deep the pockets are, and tell you plainly what he sees. For some patients, daily tray therapy alongside professional cleanings is a reasonable first step, with a date set to re-measure.
For others, surgery or laser treatment is the better answer, and we'll say so. Dr. Oh is a general dentist, and trays are not a substitute for treatment you actually need.
We won't promise that a tray will make surgery unnecessary. What we will do is measure, treat, re-measure, and be honest about what the numbers say.
What to expect, honestly
The research on Perio Protect® is small. A few short, manufacturer-supported trials reported greater reductions in pocket depth and gum bleeding when the tray was added to a deep cleaning.
No professional guideline has evaluated it. That's why we treat it as one piece of a plan rather than the plan itself, and why we measure your gums at every visit instead of assuming. If the numbers aren't moving, we'll change course with you.

Your plan, step by step
How a tray becomes part of your plan
Four steps: measure first, scan your teeth, fit the tray, then a home routine we re-measure at every visit.
Measure first
Dr. Oh examines your gums, measures the pockets, and reviews your x-rays. If a tray makes sense for you, he says so. If it doesn't, he says that too.
Digital scan
We take a digital scan of your teeth and send it to the lab. Your Perio Tray® comes back custom-made to fit your mouth and no one else's.
Fitting and first session
You try the tray in with us. Dr. Oh checks the fit, prescribes the gel, and shows you exactly how much to use, how long to wear it, and how often.
Home routine, then re-measure
You wear it daily at home. At your hygiene visits we re-measure your gums and adjust the plan — keep going, change something, or step up to other treatment.
